The Canadian Film Festival is back after a three-year hiatus, and promises to be better than ever. The Festival is a non-profit organization devoted to the celebration, promotion and advancement of Canadian filmmaking talent. Among the films being shown at this year’s festival is the Toronto premiere of Cloudburst, an adventure comedy starring Olympia Dukakis directed by Thom Fitzgerald. JWT Toronto has created an multi-media campaign to promote the festival that includes cinema, television, digital, posters, and print. Group Creative Directors, Craig Markou and Colin Winn, were the creative team behind the effort. Describing the campaign idea, Winn explains, “the spots depict regular people who are so inspired by the movies, that they orchestrate everyday situations – turning them into movie scenes with themselves as the lead character.” The spots end on the tagline: There’s a film festival for people like you. In keeping with the festival’s celebration of Canadian film talent, all of the spots were shot by different Canadian directors. According to Markou, “We wanted these spots to feel like individual short films, and we encouraged the directors to bring their own look and style to each spot. The three spots were shot by David McNally (Ruckus Films) Curtis Wehrfritz (Untitled Films) and Alex Sikorky (Potential Productions). The Festival runs from March 27 to 31 in Toronto.
