Traffic Light Dance-Off
To inspire the local catchment area to attend Woking Contemporary Dance Festival on 24-25 July (which takes over Woking town centre for two days with its family-fun filled annual mini-festival), LETHAL created this short film. We commissioned local dancers to perform a Traffic Light Dance-Off, which successfully brought Woking (a provincial town near London) to a standstill last week, and went some way to rebranding an otherwise undesirable location as an interesting destination. In keeping with the 'Making the ordinary, extraordinary' theme, we ambushed the locals and passing cars with some interventionist street theatre at a set of town centre traffic lights. Choreographed in co-ordination with the traffic light sequence, dancers in matching colours went about making this everyday setting a highlight in the daily routine of a Wokingite, not unlike the aims of Woking Dance Festival. Film & campaign was created & art directed by Lethal, produced & edited by George MacCallum.
